EMMETT Technique

What is EMMETT Technique?

The EMMETT Technique is a complementary bodywork therapy created by Ross Emmett of Queensland, Australia. Amazing results in reduction of back pain, neck pain, pain relief and increased movement have been obtained with this treatment and generally occur in a very short space of time. EMMETT Technique is now being taught and utilised in many countries around the world and complements other treatments such as chiropractic, physiotherapy and massage.

What to expect

While being treated with EMMETT Technique your therapist will apply light pressure at particular points and in sequences that enable physical release and reset of muscles or muscle groups. This therapy allows the body to release the muscular memory of an injury and in many cases, pain relief is felt immediately.

Therapists will also use a verbal approach to create attitude change, and often ask the client to perform a simple body action to activate a muscle group. These cues help the individual’s body to realise a change has been made and also helps to lock in the body-work for lasting results. Treatments can be performed fully clothed and most releases can be done seated or standing for client comfort.

Bowen Therapy

Integrated Bowen Therapy (Bowen Technique)

Bowen Therapy (Bowen Technique) is a complementary therapy that works to release the fascia or connective tissue of the body with gentle rolling and flicking movements in specific sequence. It is of great benefit for relieving pain in the body, calming the nervous system, easing muscle tension and improving movement restrictions.

My training has been in Integrated Bowen Therapy, comprised of Bowen Therapy moves to balance the whole body, combined with elements of trigger point therapy, less wait time between moves and the flexibility to incorporate other therapies as needed.

What to expect

The session will usually begin with a few assessments if there is a problem area to be worked on. From there an individual treatment plan can be worked out. The therapy is performed through clothing or through a towel for client comfort and most of the session will be lying on a comfortable massage table. At the end, some seated or standing release points may be worked on. Pressure is modified to be comfortable to you as the client.

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release

What is McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release?

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR) is an innovative, pain-free, natural method of working on scar tissue. Gentle, finger-tip pressure is applied to the area to help free the restrictions in the scar. No force is involved and the work is always applied within your tolerance.

Types of scars we can assist with

  • Caesarean section or C-section scars (see results of only 15 mins!)
  • Breast surgery scars
  • Lymphadenectomy and resulting cording or axillary web syndrome
  • Most post-surgical scars including joint replacements, arthroscopy, keyhole surgeries, lumpectomies
  • Trauma wounds
  • Scar tissue from sports injuries
  • Burns

Scars may have a huge influence on our presenting problems and can be the cause of lingering pain, restriction in movement and weakness, reduced blood and lymph flow or emotional discomfort from the look or feel of the scar.

Treatment of your scar is vital!

According to research, if a scar is left untreated it may make other therapeutic interventions less effective or not last as long. Even though your scar may be many years old this may be the release your body has been searching for. Often just one or two sessions can produce dramatic changes that you can see and feel.

Lymphatic Drainage

What is Lymphatic Drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a manual therapy that targets the movement of the lymph fluid. The lymph fluid is linked closely to the function of the immune system but it lacks a pump, like our heart, to move it through the body. Our Lymphatic Drainage sessions are based on the Emmett Technique methods. It cuts treatment time from the traditionally taken time of 2+ hours to approximately half an hour while still producing great benefits.

What to expect during the appointment

Lymphatic drainage is a relaxing and flowing treatment. It is performed through clothing lying comfortably face up on a massage table. There is a little bit of work directly on the skin over the abdomen.

Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage

  • Boosts the immune system, reduces inflammation especially post-surgery or infection
  • Helps to flush out fluid build-up and swelling, benefiting lymphoedema
  • Boosts energy
  • Regulates bowel (good for IBS)
  • Relieves sinus congestion
  • Improves skin clarity
  • Reduces swelling associated with pregnancy
  • Aids post-viral fatigue
  • Relaxation — it feels great!
