What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of complementary medicine developed in Germany at the end of the eighteenth century that is still used worldwide. Its guiding principle is ‘like cures like’. This means, a substance that would result in a specific set of symptoms in a healthy person, will alleviate those symptoms, presenting in a sick person.

With every consultation, the remedy is matched to the person and their symptoms, rather than to the diagnosis, resulting in a truly individualised therapy. Most often, two people with identical complaints will receive completely different remedies.

What are homeopathic remedies?

Homeopathic remedies are usually dispensed on sugar pillules or in an alcohol preparation to be taken orally. The medicating liquid they contain is a diluted and potentised medicinal tincture, derived from plant, animal or mineral origin.

Every remedy begins as a mother tincture, i.e. an extract drawn from the source material. To make this tincture into a homeopathic medicine it is taken through a repeated process of dilution and succussion (the mixture is shaken vigorously against a firm surface). This removes the toxic effects of the starting substance and enhances the medicinal action. The number of times this process is done, along with the amount of dilution determines the potency or the ‘X’, ‘C’ or ‘M’ that will be written on your prescription.

How is your remedy chosen for you?

Homeopathic prescribing builds a picture of the whole person, vitality levels and the evolution of your health ailments over time. We will go through your health history, the complaint that brought you in, sleep, energy, response to temperature, appetite, stress, and how things have shifted over time.

This overall picture and your symptoms are matched to the most closely fitting remedy. Only one remedy is prescribed at a time to allow accurate evaluation of the effect of the remedy. The result is a tailored prescription that aims to uplift the energy of your whole being.

Your first consultation

Introductory offer — $100 for the initial consultation of up to two hours (remedy is an extra cost $5–$25)

The initial consultation consists of a thorough health assessment and allows up to two hours. That length is deliberate, building an accurate picture takes time, and much of what proves useful emerges once there is space for a proper conversation.

We will go through your health history, the complaint that brought you in and the details of how your body is functioning, mentioned above. Your remedy is selected for you from the most similar remedy to your overall picture.

It is useful to bring along the results of any medical testing and details of your current prescriptions to your initial appointment.

Follow-up appointments

$80 per follow-up consultation.

Follow-ups are shorter (approximately 30–45 minutes) and give us the chance to review how you have responded to the homeopathic remedy, note what has changed, and refine the prescription. How often you return depends on you, your state of health and on what you are working with; it is something we discuss together rather than fix in advance.

Alongside your other treatments

Homeopathy is a complementary therapy and is not a replacement for medical care. Please continue working with your GP or specialist, and do not stop or alter prescribed medication without speaking to them first. We are glad to work alongside your existing healthcare team, and if you are unsure whether homeopathy suits your situation you are very welcome to get in touch for a chat before booking.
